Logan and I have made it to Mississippi..It has been a whirlwhind of a trip so far...We flew in Friday night and went to see great granny...she was so happy to see Logan. Saturday we woke up bright and early and went to Starkvegas!! We went tailgating, saw Coach Croom at the dog walk (he gave Logan a high five!) and went to see the bulldogs beat Arkansas. Then we were off to Winona to see Poppy and Nana. We had a great time and went to church on Sunday, but left during the Lord's Prayer. Sunday evening we drove back to brandon to mimi and ray ray's house.

Monday we drove to Meridian to see Ann..she thought Logan was so advanced for his age (but she also thought he was 5 months old and he is 10 months!). Tuesday we went to Ray Ray's office for Thanksgiving lunch...the food was delicious then off to shop with MIMI for some bargains at Belks. Tuesday evening Grunt and Aunt P made it into town and Uncle Coy will arrive today.

Logan has been such a trooper. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and Logan loves and misses his daddy. We love ya!

Ocular Albinism

Well, this past tuesday we went up to columbus for the VRE and ERG testing of Logan's eyes...The tests were pretty simple, the doctor hooked up electrodes to logans head and he watched different images on a computer screen. It took about 2 hours and Logan was perfect...the doctor said this was the best 9 month old patient he had had. Later that afternoon we met with Dr. Rogers (our eye doctor), he says that all of the results are pointing in the direction of ocular albinism. We wont know for sure til he is about 3 and the doctor can look into his iris.
I have copied some information about ocular albinism:
What is ocular albinism?

Ocular albinism is a genetic condition that primarily affects the eyes. This condition reduces the coloring (pigmentation) of the iris, which is the colored part of the eye, and the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Pigmentation in the eye is essential for normal vision.
Ocular albinism is characterized by severely impaired sharpness of vision (visual acuity) and problems with combining vision from both eyes to perceive depth (stereoscopic vision). Although the vision loss is permanent, it does not worsen over time. Other eye abnormalities associated with this condition include rapid, involuntary eye movements (nystagmus); eyes that do not look in the same direction (strabismus); and increased sensitivity to light (photophobia). Many affected individuals also have abnormalities involving the optic nerves, which carry visual information from the eye to the brain.
Unlike some other forms of albinism, ocular albinism does not significantly affect the color of the skin and hair. People with this condition may have a somewhat lighter complexion than other members of their family, but these differences are usually minor.
The most common form of ocular albinism is known as the Nettleship-Falls type or type 1. Other forms of ocular albinism are much rarer and may be associated with additional signs and symptoms, such as hearing loss.

How common is ocular albinism?

The most common form of this disorder, ocular albinism type 1, affects at least 1 in 60,000 males. The classic signs and symptoms of this condition are much less common in females.
The doctor says to just continue patching wearing glasses. We will be getting new glasses next week, the old ones are way too small and causing indentions in his head!!
Hope everyone has a great week. Logan and I will be flying home for Thanksgiving and staying the week, Jason has to work and cant make the trip home.

Underweight???

That is what the doctor is saying... We took Logan in for his 6 month check up (we were a few weeks late) about 2 weeks ago...He weighed in at 15 lbs 3oz. which puts him in the 3rd percentile...This boy eats all of the time. I make his own baby food, put them in ice cube trays and freeze them (it is so easy and inexpensive) He eats about 9 cubes for dinner and 5 for lunch. The doctor looked at me like I was the only person ever to make baby food. She suggested that we feed him a bedtime snack...Logan eats at 5 and is asleep by 6 (and sleeps til about 6 in the morning) so I dont like the snack idea. Needless to say, we are changing physicians and headed over to the competition. We think he is perfectly healthy and have added yo baby yogurt to plump him up...

Smocking

My mom (mimi) decided to put her smocking skills to use again after 20 something years....The outfit was perfect for Ohio's homecoming game last weekend and we even won our first game of the season....Logan looked adorable, but it was just a smidgen tight!

New Favorite Picture

This is my all time favorite pic of Logan....Jason travels to all of the bobcat football games, so I have been travelling up to columbus with friends and we go shopping and get pictures made of our kids. You can see his 2 teeth and he just looks SO happy!!!

We went to see Great-Granny at the Orchard.

Enjoying Aunt Sarah's new kitchen!

Aunt Phyllis and Uncle Coy came to see me in Brandon.

Having fun on Uncle J and Aunt Sarah's new deck that J designed and built!

Logan and I had a great visit home to Mississippi..He did great on the plane ride..I was tee-teed on twice and he had a change of clothes..I didn't..Friday we went to portrait innovations at the new renaissance mall in ridgeland..They did a great job and we have SO many pictures!! Friday night we went to J and Sarah's house and ate, their new deck looks fabulous....Saturday I went shopping by myself while mimi, ray ray, grunt, aunt phyllis and uncle coy all entertained Logan.

Sunday we saw great granny...she looks great, it has been a rough summer for her...a hip replacement and gallbladder surgery...so glad she is doing so well..Nanna and Poppy also came to see Logan and had a great time playing on the floor with him.

It was a horrible football weekend.. The Ohio bobcats lost by 1 to Wyoming, and the MSU bulldawgs lost down in Louisiana..To top it off..the ole miss rebels and the ohio state buckeyes won...I did get to see Kirk Herbstreet on the big screen in HD...he is my favorite!!

Logan had an eye appointment last week...We are going to patch his eye half of his waking hours and go for an ERG test in November..

MRI NEWS

Well yesterday we travelled up to columbus to children's hospital and Logan had his MIR...The staff there is fantastic....It took 2 attempts to insert the IV and that was the worst part.. The anesthesiologist gave him the good drugs and it took a little while, but then Logan went to sleep. The test lasted about 1 1/2 hours.

We have GREAT news to report... The MRI was negative...no lesions on the brain and no abnormalities with his optic nerve.. We go back to see Dr. Rogers on tuesday and find out where we go from here..

This time next week Logan and I will be flying home to Mississippi...we cant wait

LOGAN FAILED

Sedation that is....We went up to Columbus on Wednesday and signed in...the nurse asked us lots of questions and then she took us back and put Logan's IV in....He did great, he was screaming from the time we walked into the hospital because he was SO hungry!!! The nurse was wonderful and started giving Logan the medication and he would not go to sleep...they gave him the max dose of drugs they could give him...so we have to go back so the anesthesiologist can use powerful drugs to put our stubborn little boy to sleep.

We also got his glasses this week...he looks like a little professor in them...we have gotten lots of stares...but only because he looks so cute...hope to post some pictures soon..I also noticed a bottom tooth coming in this morning!

MRI Tomorrow

Tomorrow we are going in for the MRI at 4pm....We won't hear anything from the doctor til the next week....Logan can't have anything to eat after 2pm....that should be fun considering he eats all the time...

Here are some recent pictures from the trip home to Mississippi and a picture of Logan with his eye patched....it is getting easier everyday!!

Logan's Eye Appointment

Logan went to see a children's ophthalmologist last week in Columbus......Dr. Dave Rogers was excellent!!!! He told us that Logan has ambylopia (lazy eye) that is affecting the right eye....Jason and I have noticed this since birth...It can be corrected with patching the good eye 2 hours a day and maybe surgery further on down the road. He also said Logan has nystagmus (dancing eyes) and he his very farsighted... We were fitted for glasses and he will start wearing them all the time...
The unsettling news we received is that having ambylopia, nystagmus and being farsighted is sometimes indicative of albinism...This came as a complete shock to us...when I think of albinism I think of very white skin and red eyes...the doctor informed us that there are several types of albinism....so, we are going to have an MRI this Wednesday up at Children's in Columbus and Logan will be put to sleep for this..They are wanting to look at his brain structure and look at his optic nerve and then we will go from there......

It was a pretty rough week and alot of info to take in all at once....The patching is going very well, I am patching his eye in the evening and we are playing and just having a normal routine.....I know he has some sight to that eye because at supper time is mouth is open before the spoon gets there....

On a positive note, Logan turned 6 months old this week.....it is going by way too fast....
